About
ScreenEQUAL

The ScreenEQUAL website provides resources about the Cervical Screening Test for people with intellectual disability.

ScreenEQUAL Vision

ScreenEQUAL wants to:

Make it easier for people with intellectual disability to have a cervical screening test

Have a positive experience with the test

We co-produced these resources with people with intellectual disability, support people and doctors and nurses.
Co-produced means doing research together. It means people with disability are included in the project activities.
The ScreenEQUAL Project is based at The University of Sydney, in partnership with the University of Western Sydney, UNSW Sydney, and Family Planning Australia.

Why is ScreenEQUAL important?

Cervical cancer is one of the easiest cancers to stop. Having a cervical screening test helps

  • lower your chance of cervical cancer
  • by finding and fixing any problems early.

Lots of people with intellectual disability do not get the cervical screening test because of

  • fear and anxiety
  • not understanding the information about the test
  • not knowing about their test choices.

We want to make it easier for people with intellectual disability

  • to have the cervical screening test.

Accessible information and knowing your rights can help people with the test.
